Body Image

Body image is both a personal and social construct which is highly influenced by the internalization of our visual environment. Do you struggle with the discrepancy between what you wish you looked like and what you actually look like? There are many factors that inform our body image including family beliefs, cultural expectations, genetic predisposition (body type), peer pressure, self esteem, and being a highly sensitive individual. Symptoms of negative body image include obsessive thoughts about appearance, high body shame, persistent body checking, body dysmorphia, and disordered eating.
